Recently Microsoft
released Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP. SP2 is not just a
simple update of the operating system, it contains much more than
just fixes. SP2 offers facilities to ensure security of your PC, and
it enables you to protect against viruses, worms and hackers.
Because SP is a
'big' update, it may have an impact on your PC when installing it.
Before you install SP2, it is advisable to consider following items:
wInner Compatible.
As a Microsoft Certified Partner Planet wInner has conducted
compatibility tests in a very early stage of the SP2 development by
Microsoft. These tests allowed us to guarantee that wInner is
compatible with SP2 and as a result you wInner system will not
suffer problems when you install this Service Pack.
Although wInner
is compatible with Windows XP SP2, it is strongly advisable that you
do not install SP2 without preparation of assistance of your system
administrator or supplier. This to ensure that any other application
(Office, Accounting, Booking sites etc.) that you run on your PC
will continue to function properly after the installation of SP2.
Points of
attention?
- SP2
contains a "firewall"
option that will protect your PC for intrusions. Activating the
firewall may have an impact on certain applications that
communicate via the Web (they may encounter a "closed door").
For example, an on-line banking application may be blocked by
the firewall to connect to the bank's server.
- It is best
to first make an inventory of all applications that you use on
your PC, and verify with the suppliers if these applications are
Windows XP SP2 compatible. Possibly some applications may
require an update.
- Before
installing Windows XP SP2, make a backup of your PC!
